Burney Brothers - Purty Dang Good

Burney Brothers BBQ opened May 1, 2008 in The Central Place at Crossroads. On the menu are beef brisket, pulled pork, chicken, turkey breast, pork spare ribs, hot links, Texas chili, BBQ burgers, sandwiches and slow-baked potatoes with lots of toppings. This is the second location for Steve Burney, owner and chef, who runs another successful BBQ place inside Third Place Commons in Lake Forest Park.

Leni and Steve

A veteran of seventeen years at the Mayflower Park Hotel in downtown Seattle, manager of Oliver's Lounge, and a manager for the Andaluca Restaurant, Burney has always been an entrepreneur at heart. He learned the tricks of the BBQ trade in Tennessee. "That's where I learned to slow-smoke the meats to a juicy perfection. After I came back, we hit the ground running and have been putting out slow-smoked goodness ever since!" he says.

The "brother" in the name refers to Steve’s brother, Tom, who does the paperwork for the restaurant in Texas. Burney jokes that the name should have included his wife, Leni, since she is as involved in the business as he is. "I like people and I enjoy the casual, chatty exchange with them in operating a BBQ place. We try to give people a good experience of eating some tasty food and having it served up in a friendly manner." Burney says he is eager to be part of the Crossroads community. His favorite meat is beef brisket, but says all his food is "purty dang good."
